Bio
Carlos Ng Pi, is a PhD candidate in the UCSF-UC Berkeley Joint PhD
Program in Bioengineering in the laboratory of Dr. Daniel Fletcher. His research involves developing molecular diagnostic tools for infectious diseases such as SARS-CoV-2 and HIV. Carlos received his Bachelor’s
and Master’s degrees in Bioengineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago. During that time, he worked with Dr. David Eddington developing microfluidic systems for the isolation of circulating tumor cells. Following graduation, Carlos joined the laboratory of Dr. Donald Ingber where he developed a scalable fabrication method for microfluidic organ-on-chips platorms.
As an Irving H. Wiesenfeld Fellow, Carlos is spearheading the development of a point-of-care system for the detection of lymphatic filariasis using a CRISPR-based diagnostic assay.
