CEND had the opportunity to join colleagues from across academia, industry, global health, and philanthropy at the 2026 Bay Area World Malaria Day Forum, hosted by the UCSF Institute for Global Health Sciences and its Center for Malaria and Vector-Borne Diseases.
Held at the UCSF Mission Bay Campus, this year’s forum brought together more than 100 researchers, clinicians, and innovators committed to accelerating progress toward malaria elimination. The program featured discussions on the next generation of antimalarial therapies, the evolving landscape of vaccine development, and exciting lightning talks, including CEND affiliate Filipa Rijo-Ferreira, highlighting research from institutions across the Bay Area.
For our team, the day was a powerful reminder that progress against malaria has always been driven by collaboration across disciplines, sectors, and continents. The forum highlighted both how far the field has come and the urgency of the work still ahead, and we left inspired by the shared sense of purpose that defined the day.
