On April 11, 2026, we were proud to host the Annual BayViro Symposium, bringing together a vibrant community of virologists, clinicians, and innovators from across the Bay Area for a full day of scientific exchange, discovery, and connection.
Since its founding, BayViro has grown into a dynamic and influential forum that bridges academia, clinical practice, and industry. This year’s symposium was a powerful reflection of that mission, showcasing cutting-edge research and fostering meaningful dialogue across disciplines. Attendees represented universities, research institutes, biotech companies, and clinical centers across the Bay Area, sharing a commitment to advancing the field of virology.
The program highlighted the breadth and depth of virology, with presentations spanning fundamental virus biology, host–pathogen interactions, emerging technologies, and translational research. Throughout the day, speakers and presenters shared insights that not only deepened our understanding of viral systems but also underscored the real-world applications of this work in improving human health.
This year, we were especially inspired by the exceptional trainee presentations and posters, which demonstrated both scientific rigor and innovative thinking. These sessions created valuable opportunities for early-career scientists to share their work, receive feedback, and build connections with peers and established leaders in the field.
We were also honored to feature an extraordinary group of keynote speakers, including Magnus Hoffmann, Christopher Barnes, Lisa Selzer, and Terza Brostoff, whose insights helped frame key challenges and opportunities across the field. This event would not have been possible without the generous support of our sponsors, including Gilead, Biohub, Novartis, Gladstone Institutes, and Assembly Bio.
As the field continues to evolve, BayViro remains committed to fostering collaboration, supporting emerging scientists, and advancing research that addresses some of the most pressing challenges in infectious diseases. Thank you to everyone who attended, presented, and contributed to making this year’s symposium such a success. We look forward to continuing to grow this community and welcoming you to future BayViro events!
