Research Training at the Confluence of Infectious and Non-Communicable Diseases in India
The Global Infectious Disease (GID) training program seeks to to establish a sustainable research and training infrastructure at Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeswara (JSSU) University in Mysore, India dedicated to the study of the interaction of infectious diseases with chronic non-communicable diseases (NCD).
The structure of the GID training program will include two tracks:
- Field epidemiology of infectious disease interaction with non-communicable diseases
- Molecular epidemiology of infectious diseases that occurs in people who develop non-communicable diseases.
Training is primarily be provided on site in Mysore to post-graduate students (Masters, MD, and PhD degrees) as part of their degree training at JSSU. A limited number of short-term (less than 6 months) and long-term (6-12 months) training opportunities are offered in the US.
The program will be co-directed by Dr. Lee Riley at UCB and Dr. Mahesh Anand Padukudru at JSSU. A GID D43 grant from Fogarty center funds the program.
